Was Thomas Partey’s Exit From Atletico Madrid a Curse or a Blessing

Arsenal have signed one of the best midfielders in the world, however has this move weakened or strengthen Atletico Madrid.

For the last two years Thomas Partey has been Atletico Madrid’s best player yet he was one of the lowest earners in the squad, there was talks about Atleti management offering him a new contract, however they took too long which resulted in Arsenal coming in and paying his release clause. However has his departure been a blessing or a curse.

Blessing

One of the biggest problems Atleti had last season was each time they tried to play attacking football in most cases it did not work because Thomas playing way to deep and with him sitting deep which made it difficult to link the attack to defence which is one of the reasons why Simeone signed Torreira because with his arrival Thomas would drop in his box to box role a role which Thomas was fantastic in when Rodri was around, however it never happened because Thomas left. However without Thomas Atleti don’t have that kind of player in that which has in a way allowed Atleti to attack properly because they have been scoring freely.

Curse?

Atletico Madrid have been very poor in terms of defensively without Thomas the team has looked very vulnerable and they was very exposed when they lost 4-0 against FC Bayern and their 3-2 victory against Salzburg.
