Top Cheri Bags 7 Nominations
On Friday, the nominees for the Namibia Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) were announced across all gender-neutral categories on social media. Namibia’s flame, Top Cheri, leads the pack with 7 nominations including New Comer of the Year, Best Album of the Year and Best Female Artist of the Year. This means she has surpassed Sally Boss Madam’s previous record of 6 nominations in 2018.
The “Hangover” hitmaker will contest for Best Female Artist of the Year alongside Lindsey, Lize Ehlers, Reeziana and Zay Zay in addition to receiving more nominations than any other artists this year.
Following Top, Cheri is Tswazis and Exit receiving 5 nominations apiece. Exit is also nominated in the Male Artist of the Year category against Gazza, Big Ben, DJ Kboz and Sean K. Then follows Tate Buti, Gazza, and Kinzzoo with 4 nominations each.
In what could be considered a snub to hardworking Kwaito artist, Young T, who has previously been featured in big categories such as Album of the Year and Song of the Year, hits the bottom of the list with one nomination. Sally Boss Madam has over the years worked hard besides being ignored by the previous NAMAs. The singer only managed to bag two nominations for Best Video and Best Single.
The Namibia Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) 9th Edition will take place at the Dome in Swakopmund on the 7th of September 2019.
