Tiger Woods Epic Comeback
43-year-old American superstar Tiger Woods, wins a fifth Green Jacket at Augusta National on Sunday, his first major win in 11 years and a first since having four operations on his back.
“It’s overwhelming just because of what has transpired,” Woods said. “I could barely walk. Couldn’t sleep. Couldn’t walk. Couldn’t do anything.
Since his last major win, he had taken an “indefinite break” from golf in 2009 after admissions of infidelity and the breakdown of his marriage. In 2017, he was in the spotlight again when he was found asleep at the wheel of his car, later pleading guilty to reckless driving.
“To come back and win the Masters after all the highs and lows is a testament to excellence, and determination,” he wrote
Woods, of course, had never lost faith. Champions always believe, and there have been few serial winners more ruthless than this golfer, whose significance has long-since transcended the game of golf.
They weren’t just talking about the past four days. Woods has been getting ready for the Masters for six months. And he’s been preparing for this moment ever since returning to competition post-spinal fusion at the Hero World Challenge in December 2017.
Tiger Woods celebrates with his son Charlie Axel and manager Mark Steinberg as he comes off the 18th hole in honour of his win during the final round of the Masters at Augusta National Golf Club. “It has come in full circle,” Woods said. “This tournament has meant so much to me and to have everyone here means so much to me and my family.”
Woods has set a record for the longest gap between Masters triumphs.
