The Rise of Young KayC Jr Part 1

Columbustine Kupiwanashe Mandizvidza aka Young KayC Jr is a Namibian upcoming rapper who is currently residing in Zimbabwe. Young KayC was born in Zimbabwe but raised in Namibian. The rapper is currently signed under his own independent record label, Trend Setting Music.

Whenever rappers decide to become rappers they usually start off as poets and writers then they slowly graduated to becoming lyricists, this was the case for Young KayC Jr as Hip-Hip hop would help him express his emotions and connect with people in the process.

“I started of as a lyricist and writer… which saw me winning SADC Essay Competition in 2017, DSTV Eutelsat Awards (Namibia) when I was in grade 12. I was mostly  inspired by  the fact that Hip-Hop allows me to say things I could never write in essays, letters or any other literature. I never became a Doctor like most school kids dream of but I am able to touch souls and heal the broken hearted through Hip-Hop”

Every musician has an artist they look up to, most musicians are inspired by international acts while few are inspired by local acts, with Young KayC it’s a mixture of both.

“In Namibia I am inspired by The Dogg, Gazza and Slammer they also happen to be personal friends of mine. Continentally I’m inspired  by Sarkodie and Ice Prince. Globally I’m inspired  by Drake.”

It’s very rare to be an upcoming artist who secures a gig to perform in SADC and have the experience to perform in different countries and meet different fans. Young KayC explained how he got these major gigs.

“I am currently  touring SADC and I have started of with Zimbabwe, were I’m doing a school tour.  Next stop is Botswana were I will be performing to over 10,000 attendees on 03 August at the Botswana Colour Run. This is made possible by one of Africa’s leading  events organisers and promoters Ticket Box, ZimTicket Holdings, Fayco Holdings, Trend Setting Music Africa and Credfund Group. They saw potential in my music and believe in the bigger  picture  of my dreams that’s why they see my brand worth investing in. I’m currently  working towards my debut album (Album Titled Yet To Be Published). During my tour I expect to collaborate with major artists from every country I am touring to and more.”
