The Rise of Tapiwa Makaza

Tapiwa Makaza one of Namibia’s best comedians has been making shock waves in the comedian industry as he recently held a show at ‘The Kitchen’ which was well attended.

Tapiwa’s resume in the comedy world is impressive as he has won competitions and traveled the world representing the nation.

In an interview with Wamboesbelike.com Tapiwa sat down to talk about how he got into the whole stand up comedy thing.

I’ve always been the funny guy even at school since I was a kid but I got into it when I won Last Comic Standing Namibia 2012 when I was 15 years old. The following year I represented Namibia at the World Championships of Performing Arts in Los Angeles, California doing comedy and won a gold medal. That same year I won Comedian of the Year and also went on tour with Lazarus Jacobs and Slick The Dick

Tapiwa spoke about how his success has taken him as far as traveling to countries like The United States, France and Germany.

The first time comedy took me out of the country was when I went to Los Angeles, California as I mentioned earlier. Since then I’ve done SADC countries like South Africa, Botswana and Mozambique. In 2017 after high school I took a gap year to work as a comedian/entertainer on a luxury cruise ship in Europe and spent the year visiting and performing many countries like England, Scotland, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, France, Norway, Iceland and more! It was one of the heights of my comedy career.

Tapiwa stated that his fans can expect a lot from him this year.

A lot! I just had my highly anticipated first official one man comedy show called MY BIG FAT MOUTH and it was so packed the venue couldn’t accommodate everyone in attendance.  I plan to release MY BIG FAT MOUTH as a comedy special which people can buy and watch. The comedy sketches I made last year such as Namibia Taxi Strike, The Kapana Kid and Omunye Tactic (YouTube: Tapiwa Makaza) went Nam Viral and even aired on One Africa throughout December.
