Album Review
The Pride of CilQ
When it comes to Hip Hop in Namibia, over the years this is a genre mainly dominated by men. Snazzy held her own in the past and now in the future we have Lioness who just recently dropped her debut album titled The Pride of CilQ.
The album kicks off with an intro whereby it looks like Lioness is getting advice from someone regarding her music. The second track titled ‘Serpent’ includes sharp lyricism’s and criticisms for fake people, fake friends and most importantly “Sitting Ducks” and she makes it clear to them that she sees them lurking. After she’s done addressing the “Serpents” on the following track “For Sure” she takes a dig at ‘thirsty men’ just like on the previous track the production style is laid back and goes together with the lyric’s.
As the album begins to progress from “I M Just Fine” to “Good Living” the kicks in the beats begin to pick up as they start flowing in a radio version, club bangers, Afro Trap kind of vibe. The flow of the album slows down in ‘Good Living’ and ‘Meme’ as Lioness lyrics became deep. Considering how the album has followed “Good Living” and “Meme” are like hidden gems.
In My opinion Good Living and Meme are the best songs on the album. Good Living’s production style is my favorite on the album while “Meme” has the best message on the album as she talks about her mother, which is a song which will be on my mothers day playlist for life along with 2Pac’s “Dear Mam”‘ and Boyz II Men’s ‘Mama
The album features KP Illest, Skrypt, Kenny K, Slickarte, Nga-i and Waters. This was an excellent album from Lioness and I can’t wait for her song to drop which she’s doing with Coke Studios.
