The Miss Universe Organization announced on November 9th that the 70th competition will be held in December 2021 in Eilat, Israel. Andrea Meza, the current Miss Universe, was crowned in May, the competition was delayed for more than a year due to the ongoing pandemic.
Yesterday, the Miss missuupdates page posted on Instagram to share breaking news that Andrei Amart, Miss Universe Dominican Republic 2021, tested positive for the global coronavirus and will be unable to compete in the 70th Miss Universe pageant; however, the national organization has decided to replace her with first runner-up Debbie Aflalo. “
In line with pro-Palestine organizations, the South African government has withdrawn its support for Miss South Africa, Lalela Mswane, who was crowned in October.
“Pro-Palestine organizations have urged Lalela Mswane and Miss SA to skip the December event in order to protest Israel’s persecution of Palestinians.” People in South Africa have gone so far as to protest in front of Miss South Africa’s headquarters, demanding that Lalela not participate. According to the ndtv report.
Paradoxically on Tuesday, the Miss South Africa Organisation told Channel24, “Miss South Africa, Lalela Mswane, will represent South Africa at the Miss Universe competition, held this year in the picturesque Israeli resort town, Eilat, on 13th December,” And that current rumours circulating are “completely unfounded and untrue”. The organisation emphasised that they “are not a political organisation and the Miss Universe pageant is not a politically inspired event”.
In a report by the Namibian broadcaster corporation, Chelsi Shikongo said that she needed financial assistant to complete in the MU competition. The young model solicited with the Namibian government and all that can help with investment and funding her to attend the miss universe composition in Israel. To date, a total of 120k had been collected. We wish Chelsi the best of luck on her journey to the MU competition
