The Freshman Mixtape Review
Fiddy The Rapper is on the rise after dropping his debut mixtape titled The Freshman. The Freshman deals with topics like Depression, Love, Death and the streets of the Windhoek.
After dropping his single “Purpose” and doing several covers for rappers, on 8th October, Fiddy finally decided to bless his fans with some music. The way in which the production style and lyrics of the mixtape is set up, it’s set up in a manner in which listeners can digest the music instantly, however the risky part of this is, in most cases if people can digest your music quickly they will get tired of it quickly, which will result in you having to drop music every year and if that starts to happen you will end up running out of steam. This is a good thing for Fiddy because when he drops his album he will hopefully drop music that will outlive him and not music which he will outlive.
Fiddy isn’t the most talented rapper in Namibia but his one of the most hardworking rappers, his humble-hedonist persona is an appealing one. Fiddy’s “God’s Reply 2” reminds me of DMX’s “Ready To Meet Him” only difference is DMX talks about him having a conversation with God while Fiddy in his song talks about the conversation which he believes his dad would have had when meeting God, him being an Athiest while his mom being a Christian has created an interesting dynamic between him having to accept that his dad could be in a place most wouldn’t want to believe their deceased loved ones go to or he might not be anywhere at all and not exist. Finally, maybe just maybe he made it to Heaven.
While in “061 Streets” he talks about how life in Windhoek is, he does what most new school Namibian rappers fail to do which is talk about the life in Windhoek. His 2nd verse talks the sad reality on how guys in Windhoek disrespect women.
With each project Fiddy will be dropping in the years to come, I am sure Fiddy will grow as a rapper.
