Namibian Elections Expecting A Low Turnout
With the elections getting closer, a low turnout is expected because the Namibian youth are unhappy with the current situations happening in the country.
In Namibia’s last elections, the turnout was at 71.76%. 1,241,194 people registered to vote but only 890,738 voted. 70% is good, but that number will go down. Also, this year Namibia will have about 290 000 young eligible to vote for first the time.
In other countries in Africa, the turnout for Nigeria’s most recent election was a record low at just 35.6%. Yes, only THIRTY FIVE point SIX percent Nigerians voted, this will be the same in Namibia and South Africa.
