Namibia Qualifies To AFCON Despite Losing 4-1 To Zambia
Namibia have qualified for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) despite losing 4-1 away to Zambia at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
After an opportunistic start from Namibia, Zambia settled into the game and took the lead in the 13th minute thanks to Augustine Mulenga. Namibia should’ve equalized 15 minutes later after a brilliant counter attack which resulted in Peter Shalulile squaring the ball to Deon Hotto who missed an open goal. This would prove to be a key point in the game as 10 minutes into the second half the Chipolopolo scored their 2nd goal of the match via a set piece which was scored by Malama. Namibia kept pushing on and almost got rewarded as Shalulile turned home a cross from the right flank, but he was incorrectly adjudged to have been in an offside position – with an injured Zambian defender lying prostrate on the turf clearly playing the forward onside. Zambia went on and killed off the game by adding two more goals despite Peter Shalulile pulling one goal back.
Brave Warriors have Guinea Bissau to thank as they equalized in the dying minutes to claim a 2-2 draw against a very resilient Mozambique. Brave Warriors return to the Afcon after an 11 years absence and with the current squad they have there is a good possibility that they might make it out of the group stage.
