KK: Nam HipHop’s G.O.A.T.
“We Go Hard,” “Katutura Kid,” “Down Girl,” “Khaima”. All these songs have two things in common; 1. They are some of the biggest hits in the music industry, 2. They were all made by the same genius-Maximillion Kadeen Kaoseb or as popularly known, KK.
Some of you know him as inarguably one of the best rappers from Namibia, we sat down with KK to get to know him better and realised that he is exactly that, the best rapper in Namibia.
KK says he was introduced to Hip-Hop in 8th grade and has been writing ever since. The rapper who released his first massive hit “We Go Hard” in 2008 says that he did have non-musical plans prior to his music career kicking off and we could not be happier for his decision. The rapper who has three albums to his name, Genesis which was produced by the late Eclipse and DJ Kboz, and Start from Scratch which boosted hits like “Katutura Kid” and “Down Girl” and his third album which he describes as the most confusing album for his fans Kaleidoscope.
KK who is currently working on his new album titled INRI says that it is his best work yet, and we could not agree more. The artist who already released the single “Khaima” featuring Tswazis definitely has our attention glued to when he plans on releasing the album or in the least bit more singles from the album. Although he says that he can’t really give us all the details right now, he does promise some of the best features and tracks that he has ever done before. About whether or not he will be working with Desmond, he says that that has not yet been decided either but if it happens, it happens.
“With this one, I am grown now, I know what I am doing, I know what I want, when I go for beats or to producers, I know exactly what I want. So this will be the best I have done so far.”
The 12 track album which is said to be released next month will feature artists like Damara Dik Ding, Tswazis and other artists that can’t be disclosed yet.
When asked whether or not he thought of anyone as competition right now, KK says that although he does think that there are good rappers in the country right now, he does not see anyone as competition because as he puts it; “He is in a league of his own.” Finally, KK urged artists to invest in their crafts both lyrically or just in music videos, he says that it is important that consumers get value for their money and that quality should always be prioritised over quantity when it comes to music. The Katutura Kid hit maker is currently seeing his on again off again high school sweetheart Kuna Mushimba.
