How Can The Music Industry Move Forward
Music is a language which many people engage in because of it’s lucrative nature. If you want to make money then there are a few things you must be aware of before you just go into the studio and put out music.
A Good Manager
The biggest issue that upcoming musicians in Namibia have is, they either try to do the day to day business dealings or the people who are their so called managers do a poor job at managing them. A artist manager is someone who does the day to day business dealings like getting gigs for the musician and assisting the artist secure a record deal with a major label. Remember a manager’s role is to further develop their client’s career. So it is important to have a good manager because they can either take your career further or they can slow it down.
Promote/Advertise Your Music Through Social Media
In Namibia it is so difficult to gain access to local music because it is either the marketing is bad or the artist does not upload their music on popular streaming sites like Deezer, Soundcloud and Mixcloud. Technology has made life so easy but a lot of musicians in Namibia are failing to adapt with the changes. Majority of people in Namibia are always Facebook/Twitter/Instagram, use those platforms to promote your page and gain followers so that you can have a fan base.
Aim for the Namibian Market Not The International Market
A huge problem we have in Namibia is majority of the artists try to sound American, instead of sounding Namibian which has resulted in no one really paying attention to them. The only way the outside world will notice you is if you sound local and original. That’s the only way you will break into the western world.
The last advice is to try and secure as much gigs as possible because that is where your money is and that’s another way to gain a large fan base
