Group C Is Wide Open
It’s been 3 months since the UCL returned to our screens and when the draw was made no group was intriguing as group C which consists of last year’s UCL’s runners up Liverpool, last year Serie A runners up Napoli who finished with 91 points. French Champions PSG and last but not least the Serbian Champions Red Star Belgrade.
Before this group was drawn a lot of football fans tipped Liverpool and PSG to make it through and predicted Napoli to give a stiff challenge, however Red Star was not given any chance to make it through as a matter of fact it was predicted that they would be the whipping boys in the group. We are currently in match day four and all four teams in the group all have a chance of qualifying. Red Star who are the underdogs in the group have proven to be very strong at home picking up four points against Liverpool and Napoli.
Which Team Has The Best Balance Across All Positions On The Pitch?
Napoli by far has the best balance, I mean if you look at their squad they have a good depth and their first 11 is well balance you have the option to go with a false 9 in Dries Mertens who has scored close to 31 goals last season and currently has 9 goals, while at the back you have Koulibaly who is just phenomenal is currently is the best defender in the world, but the massive factor in the group is the fact that Napoli has a ‘Ball Winning’ midfielder in the form of Allan something which the other three team’s don’t have. Klopp has made very good signings this season but the fact that he didn’t go for a number 9 or an out an out center forward might cost LFC in this group because they are missing that number 9 who will hold up play and poach in the box, Firmino is a good player but he isn’t an out an out CF. Klopp was suppose to add another CB in case Van Dijk gets injured because in all fairness Lovren and Gomez are good individual defenders who can only be good as long as they play next to someone who can organize the back line, Salah starting the season slowly does not help Liverpool at all, he looks very fatigued and probably needs a rest. PSG has Thomas Tuchel as their new manager and so far even his struggling to express his ideas on this PSG squad it’s almost as if his caught in two minds, one which is ‘Do I build my team around Neymar’ or two ‘Should I just continue my style of football brand whereby I don’t build my style of play around anyone’ because at times Neymar playing for himself and not playing for the team hurts the entire team. The PSG defense isn’t really that strong and when you look into the midfield they don’t really have that tough ‘ball winning midfielder’ who can allow Verratti to control the midfield. Vladan Milojević’s Red Star doesn’t really have the star players which the other three teams possess so they have to depend on each other and largely their fans for inspiration.
Who Is Currently The Best Player In Group C
Lorenzo Insigne – Napoli
Never under estimate the power of Insigne! Lorenzo Insigne has scored in three consecutive Champions League matches for the first time in his career, and those goals have been important, I mean he got the winner against Liverpool and scored against PSG.
Lorenzo Insigne is the first Italian player in Champions League history to score in five successive home matches in the competition. Poacher
