Erindi: If Opportunity Knocks Take It
The Minister of Information and Communication Technology Stanley Simataa says interested members of the public can to join forces with foreign investors to buy Erindi Private Game Reserve after the government’s decision not to purchase it.
Erindi is one of Namibia’s biggest privately owned game reserve and its located south-east of Omaruru. It has been on the market for over 5 years now, with a price tag of nearly 2 billion Namibian dollars.
The cabinet announced that the government has scrapped plans to buy Erindi Private Game Reserve due to lack of financial resources. This information was sourced from Stanley Simataa when he announced at the cabinet briefing last Thursday. The announcement came at a time of a court battle between Erindi (Pty) Ltd and the government over the pending sale of the 65 000-hectare game farm.
Erindi (Pty) Ltd is the owner of the farms Erindi, Constantia and Otjimukura, situated between Okahandja and Omaruru on which the Erindi Private Game Reserve has been established. A tract of land measuring some 70 700 hectares. The company lodged the case after it offered the farms Erindi and Constantia, for sale to the government as “an going concern” at N$ 1.9 billion in January 2016.
Alternatively , it wanted a court order declaring that the minister had declined the company’s offer to sell to the government, and that Erindi is now entitled to a waiver to be able to sell to private buyers. Erindi Private Game Reserve is home to over 90 mammalian species, including elephants, lions, giraffes, black rhino’s, white rhino’s, leopards and cheetah.
The public should not take this lightly, when opportunity knocks, take it. One might just end up owning all these farms. “Hurry while stock last.”
